Alphabet Fun: Letter C

Photobucket

We had SO much fun with "C Week"! Our main theme was CUPCAKES! Who wouldn't have fun with that? LOL!

A funny thing happened this week and on the days I took pictures Rylee was wearing the SAME outfit. If you look closely though you will notice that it is a CUPCAKE outfit! She was SO excited about her cupcake outfit (also known now as her "C outfit") and wanted to wear it EVERYDAY that week! Well, I wouldn't let her wear it everyday but I guess the few days I took pics of what she was doing that is what she was wearing. I promise she has more than 1 outfit in her closet ;)

ACTIVITIES

C Blends: I put magnets on the back and put them on the fridge. We go through them while I'm cooking or working in the kitchen. She reviews on her own or I will say a blend and ask her to bring me the right card. She LOVES this! You can download them from here

C Puzzle (You can download from here) I was afraid this wouldn't work well as a puzzle but it ended up working great. I cut the bottom of the cupcake off as 1 of the puzzle pieces and then cut the top of the cupcake into 3 pieces (in different direction and cutting in a 'curvy' line)

Count Coins (she counted pennies)

Patterns (you can download from here)

Letter C Search (I can't find the pic of this, but I just make them in microsoft word really quick...)

SCIENCE
Color Mixing! We have the Color Mixing Instant Learning Center that we used for this activity. Rylee LOVED this! You use the color paddles and follow the guide and put the different paddles together to form colors. Like the first one, you pick up the red paddle and the blue paddle, hold them together and you get purple. So you put the purple crayon at the end. This is such a neat set!
Photobucket

WRITING
Guess I didn't get pics but she worked on writing her C's and 4's (used Abeka writing sheets)

GAMES
Lots of games of candyland going on during "C" week!

LETTER C FUN NIGHT
We had cupcakes (of course... lol) and afterwards we cuddled up on the couch and watched "Cars" :) :)

1st Grade: Weeks 6 - 12, sort of...

Photobucket

Alexis is moving right along and doing SO well! I am so proud of her. She really LOVES school and looks forward to it every day!

I will not be posting anymore 'weekly reviews' for Alexis. Instead I will post more specific posts of things she is doing (with pictures) throughout each week. I think this is going to be a lot more fun and allow me to post about more of what she is doing in a little more depth (and include more pictures of her and games I made). I keep a record of everything she is doing. Sitting down and posting a big review post of everything she had done that week was kind of time consuming. Which is why I haven't posted one for a long time ;) LOL!

It's very hard to do one 'general' catch up post for Alexis. She is doing SO much! She LOVES spelling, her reading is improving everyday, she learns new phonics rules and special sounds FAST (as in she remembers them VERY quickly and is ready for the next). Math, well... math... she is moving along SO fast. I can't even begin to write about everything she is doing. She is keeping up and doing WONDERFUL though... so we just keep going. We have slowed down some with the heritage studies and astronomy. She will still finish it, maybe a few weeks late, but that's just fine :)

More specific posts throughout the weeks will work SO much better for her. I am just amazed at how much 1st graders do! LOL! She loves it though!

Kindergarten: Weeks 6 - 12

Photobucket

WOW... it's been a LONG time since I've posted. I'm attempting a quick catch up post on what Austin has been up to in Kindergarten. It's been a while since I have updated. I was doing 'weekly' posts and thought about doing that again, however, I think from now on I'm just going to make posts about more specific things he does throughout the week. I keep a record of everything the kids are doing so I guess I really don't need to do weekly reviews on here too. I'll just post the fun stuff, with pictures (and links to games I make... lol).

But here's where he is now...

First... we scrapped the Abeka K5 curriculum. Well, I'm still using the worksheets as they are needed and the reading books, but all the curriculum guides I am done with. Austin is ahead of the 'curriculum' and for a while there I was kind of feeling like I HAD to use it and go in the exact order it said. It's not working. He is seriously BORED!!! BTW, that's not a good thing for a 5y/o boy ;)

Phonics....
Austin knows all the letters, their sounds, capital/small letters and the blends. He is ready to read and easily reading small words. I have introduced the two vowel rule and he is marking vowels and sounding those words out to. He is working through the list of sight words and really making AWESOME progress!! I have introduced a few of the special sounds and he is also quickly catching on to those.

Math...
No need to keep going over and over the 1 - 50 numbers, he has it. He understands families, can tell me what numbers to use to make different numbers (like 72 or 89 or 199... lol), recognizes numbers easily, etc... He can do simple addition and simple subtraction and is working on counting by 10's (counting by 5's will be introduced soon). He understands bigger, smaller, greater, less than, patterns, putting numbers in order biggest to smallest (vice versa), ordinal numbers, before and after numbers, etc...! He is also learning how to measure, tell time, count money (we have done pennies and are working on dimes, nickels will be introduced next)....

He LOVES math so it's not a surprise to me that he is doing SO well with it. I figure we'll just keep going....

Writing...
This is an area where Austin can really use the work. But that's okay. I just have him work on it daily. He is improving a LOT!

I am very happy with Austin's progress over the last few weeks. ESPECIALLY since throwing out the guides and just going for it. He is doing SO great.

From now on I will post more 'specific' things he is doing instead of one review of it all. This will make it easier for me. I can just post things as he does them and as I have time.

Where do you get all your 'graphics' for your printables?

I have been asked this a few times so thought I'd take a moment to answer this question... and it's a very important one.

Where do I get all my graphics for the printables I make?

Well, I make them. After doing a lot of research and looking at copyright laws and all that I decided to hand draw everything and then use my paint shop pro program to finish it all and create my games. It's easy, but time consuming!

I am very against using a picture or graphic that someone else has created and calling it your own or 'making it' your own. When I have used something from another site I always give credit where credit is due.

It is time consuming to create everything. But it's the only way I can do it and feel okay with sharing my printables with others :)

Vowel Song

Photobucket

Rylee basically knew the vowel song by the time she started preschool considering Alexis and Austin have both learned it over the last two years. HOWEVER, she still LOVES singing this song so I thought I'd share her singing it :)
